Seaweed Skincare & Psoriasis-Prone Skin
Seaweed has a long history of use in bathing and body care, particularly in coastal communities.
For people with psoriasis-prone skin, the aim of an Aalgo routine is not to treat or cure psoriasis, but to provide a gentle way to care for skin that may feel particularly dry, flaky or sensitive.
Aalgo can be used alongside your usual prescribed treatments or skincare routine, provided this is appropriate for you.
If your psoriasis is severe, painful, infected, rapidly worsening or affecting your joints, speak to your GP or dermatologist for medical advice.
How to Use Aalgo in a Seaweed Bath
A seaweed bath is the simplest way to use Aalgo across larger areas of the body.
Aalgo Seaweed Bath
- Add 2 tablespoons of Aalgo to a lukewarm bath.
- Allow the seaweed to disperse through the water.
- Soak for approximately 20 minutes.
- After bathing, gently pat your skin dry rather than rubbing.
Avoid very hot water, which can feel uncomfortable on already dry or sensitive skin.
For everyday cleansing, our Atlantic Seaweed Soap Bar can also be used as part of a simple body-care routine.
Using Aalgo on Smaller Areas of Dry or Flaky Skin
For smaller areas, Aalgo can be mixed into a thicker consistency.
- Mix 1 heaped teaspoon of Aalgo with hot water until it forms a smooth cream or paste.
- Allow the mixture to cool to a comfortable temperature before applying.
- Apply gently to the area.
- Leave for approximately 5 minutes.
- Remove carefully with lukewarm water.
- Pat the skin dry.
Never apply the mixture while it is hot.
This targeted method can be useful when you do not want to prepare a full bath.
Caring for Plaque-Prone, Dry & Flaky Skin
Plaque psoriasis commonly involves areas of very dry, flaky skin.
When caring for these areas, try to avoid aggressive scrubbing or manually removing scales. A gentle routine is usually preferable to repeatedly rubbing or exfoliating already sensitive skin.
Using lukewarm water, mild cleansing products and regular moisturising can help keep your routine simple.
Aalgo can be used as part of this routine through bathing or short-contact topical application.
Seaweed Skincare for Facial Psoriasis-Prone Skin
Skin on the face is more delicate than many areas of the body, so applications should be kept short and gentle.
How to Prepare an Aalgo Face Mask
- Mix 1 heaped teaspoon of Aalgo with hot water until it forms a smooth cream.
- Allow it to cool completely to a comfortable temperature.
- Apply a thin layer with clean fingers, a spatula or the back of a teaspoon.
- Leave on for approximately 2 minutes.
- Remove gently using tepid water.
- Pat the skin dry.
- Follow with your usual moisturiser.
For everyday facial cleansing, our Olive Oil Facial Cleansing Bar offers a simple cleansing option for dry and sensitive skin.
Avoid applying Aalgo to broken, bleeding or infected skin without first discussing it with an appropriate healthcare professional.
Caring for a Dry, Flaky Scalp
Psoriasis can also affect the scalp, where dryness and flaking may be particularly noticeable.
For everyday hair washing, Aalgo's Seaweed Shampoo Bar can be incorporated into a simple scalp-care routine.
How to Use the Seaweed Shampoo Bar
- Wet the hair and scalp thoroughly.
- Lather the shampoo bar between your hands.
- Massage the lather gently through the hair and scalp.
- Avoid scratching or aggressively rubbing flaky areas.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
- Repeat if required.
If you colour your hair or have a particularly reactive scalp, introduce new products carefully.
Keep Your Psoriasis-Prone Skincare Routine Simple
When skin already feels dry or sensitive, adding too many products can make it difficult to understand what works well for you. A simple routine might include:
- Gentle Bathing: Use an Aalgo seaweed bath with lukewarm rather than very hot water.
- Gentle Cleansing: Choose mild products such as the Atlantic Seaweed Soap Bar for the body or Olive Oil Facial Cleansing Bar for the face.
- Scalp Care: Use the Seaweed Shampoo Bar as part of your normal hair-washing routine.
- Moisturising: bApply your preferred moisturiser or emollient after bathing or cleansing to help keep dry skin comfortable.
If you use prescribed psoriasis treatments, continue to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare professional.
Why Choose Aalgo Organic Atlantic Seaweed?
Aalgo is centred around organic Atlantic seaweed and can be used in several different ways across a face, body and scalp-care routine.
Rather than requiring a complicated routine, one seaweed product can be prepared as:
- A seaweed bath
- A targeted application for smaller areas
- A short-contact facial mask
You can then combine it with Aalgo's gentle cleansing products according to your own skincare needs.

Usage
- Add 2 tablespoons of Aalgo to a lukewarm bath and soak for 20 minutes.
- After bathing, pat your skin dry to allow continued absorption of the seaweed.
- Bathe 2-3 times a week until your skin is smooth, then reduce to once a week to maintain the results.
We would also recommend using the Atlantic Seaweed Soap Bar for your body thereafter as this will not irritate your skin during a bath or shower.
- When healing just one area of severely dry or irritated skin, mix 1 heaped teaspoon of Aalgo with hot water, allow to cool to blood temperature and apply on the area as a cream.
- After 5 minutes gently remove in a lukewarm Aalgo bath, this will speed up the exfoliation.
Plaque Psoriasis
For the white dry scaling parts on the arms and legs:
- The first time mix Aalgo with hot water to a paste and allow cool to blood temperature.
- Cover the affected areas with the paste and wrap in transparent film (cling film).
- Leave on for 45 minutes to an hour.
- Add 2 tablespoons of Aalgo to a lukewarm bath.
- In the bath remove the paste gently with a sponge; this removes the dead and dry skin leaving bright red or purple blotches.
- Lie back in the bath with the muscles at the back of the neck in the water so that you fully relax.
- Pat your skin dry.
Maintenance:
- Have a lukewarm Aalgo bath daily until totally clear. The length of time this will take varies from person to person, a minimum of 4 weeks.
- We are trying to keep an invisible residue of Aalgo on your skin, which is absorbed through the pores and works from the inside out to re-hydrate the skin. The blotches will gradually decrease in size finally disappearing.
- When clear reduce the baths to twice a week for a couple of weeks and then try to go to 3 baths a fortnight to maintain the clear skin.
- We recommend our Atlantic Seaweed Soap Bar when washing in the bath or shower to prevent irritation.
Inverse & Erythrodermic Psoriasis
- Add 2 tablespoons of Aalgo to a lukewarm bath and soak.
- After 20mins just pat yourself dry. While you are in the bath it is acting as a healer and when you get out there will be an invisible residue on your skin which you will absorb through your pores and it hydrates the skin from the inside out.
- Keep bathing daily and you will gradually feel the amazing relief on your skin (this can take between 4-6weeks).
- When clear have an Aalgo bath twice a week.
- We recommend our Atlantic Seaweed Soap Bar when washing in the bath or shower to prevent irritation.
- Never use very hot water in either a shower or bath.
Postular Psoriasis
- For the feet mix Aalgo with hot water to a cream.
- Cool to blood temperature and apply to the soles of the feet and all around the heals.
- Cover loosely with cling film, put on socks leave on overnight.
- In the morning rinse your feet in a basin of lukewarm water and rub the area with your hands, pat dry.
- If you are a diabetic do not leave on overnight only leave on for about half an hour and then rinse off in a basin of water,
- Continue having an Aalgo foot spa daily until totally clear – then once or twice per week to keep clear.
- When showering, always have a basin with enough water and some Aalgo dissolved in it outside the shower for you to step into after the shower – this will remove all the residue of shampoos, shower gels, soap etc that are in the foot well of the shower and prevent your feet from healing.
- Never use very hot water in either a shower or bath.
- We recommend our Atlantic Seaweed Soap Bar when washing in the bath or shower to prevent irritation to the feet.
Scalp Psoriasis
THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR ADULTS ONLY. IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN WITH THE PROBLEM PLEASE CONTACT US FOR INSTRUCTIONS.
Scalp psoriasis appears as red, itchy areas with silver-white scales. You may notice flakes of dead skin in your hair or on your shoulders, especially after scratching your scalp.
The scaly patches, which may bleed when removed, may extend beyond the hairline.
- Please note with tinted hair always do a strand test behind the ear.
- Mix 2 teaspoons of Aalgo powder with a small tub of natural yogurt to a cream.
- Cover the wet hair and scalp with the mixture.
- Wrap the hair with transparent film (cling film), keeping behind the ears and above the forehead.
- Put on a shower cap.
- Cover pillow with an old dark towel
- Leave on overnight (only for adults).
- (If you have colour in your hair or highlights only leave on for 45 minutes – DO NOT LEAVE ON OVERNIGHT).
- Wash out in the morning with Aalgo shampoo bar.
- Repeat for 3 nights, then repeat every second day leaving on for 15minutes until totally clear.
- This exfoliates away all the dead and dry skin, stops the itch and flaking scalp.
- Use Aalgo Seaweed Shampoo bar to keep the scalp clear.
Nail Psoriasis
- Use large clear plastic gloves.
- Mix Aalgo powder with hot water into a cream. Cool to blood temperature and fill the fingers of the gloves with the Aalgo cream. Put your hands into the gloves – do not push to the end of the fingertips – this will cover the nails and cuticles with the paste.
- Leave on for 30mins then rinse your hands in a basin of lukewarm water, pat hands dry and go to bed – doing this just before bed allow the invisible residue of the seaweed to be absorbed through the pores and nails during the night.
- Do this daily for 6 to 7 weeks while the new nails are growing out and they will be clear.
- We recommend our Atlantic Seaweed Soap Bar when washing your hands to prevent irritation.
Facial Psoriasis
- 1 heaped teaspoon of Aalgo with hot water to a cream and cool to blood temperature.
- Apply with a spatula or the back of the teaspoon.
- After 2 minutes remove with tepid water and cotton wool.
- Rinse with cold water and cotton wool to close pores.
- Pat dry with cotton wool.
- Apply moisturiser.
Our Olive Oil Cleansing bar is a gentle way to clean any toxins or daily pollutants from the skin, preventing reoccurrence of dry or irritated skin.
Maintenance:
We would suggest that you use the mask daily for about 2 minutes until skin is clear then three times a week for two weeks and once a week thereafter.
Guttate Psoriasis
- In about 35% of cases Aalgo is beneficial for guttate psoriasis, but with our money back guarantee it is worth trying.
- Do not use paste.
- Add 2 tablespoons of Aalgo to a lukewarm bath and soak. After 20mins pat yourself dry. While you are in the bath it is acting as a healer and when you get out there will be an invisible residue on your skin which you will absorb through your pores and it hydrates the skin from the inside out.
- Bathe in an Aalgo bath daily until clear. When clear have an Aalgo bath twice a week.
- Never use very hot water in either a shower or bath.
- We recommend our Atlantic Seaweed Soap Bar when washing your hands to prevent irritation.
Psoriatic Arthritis
- If you can get in a bath add 2 tablespoons of Aalgo to a lukewarm bath and soak in the bath. Once you have cleared the visible psoriasis with lukewarm baths then up the temperature of the bath.
- If there are particular joints that are bad e.g.: fingers, wrists, knees, ankles etc mix Aalgo with hot water into a paste cover the area, wrap loosely with cling film and cover with a towel to keep the heat in. Leave for about 30mins and shower off.
- This eases the pain for 24 hours and reduces swelling. Continue bathing daily.
