Seaweed & Eczema-Prone Skin
People searching for seaweed for eczema or a seaweed bath for eczema are often looking for a simple way to care for extremely dry and sensitive skin.
Aalgo is made from organic Atlantic seaweed and can be prepared in several ways depending on where the skin needs care.
The aim is to keep the routine gentle, avoiding aggressive scrubbing, very hot water and unnecessary products that may leave already sensitive skin feeling uncomfortable.
How to Prepare a Seaweed Bath for Eczema-Prone Skin
For larger areas of dry or eczema-prone skin:
- Add 2 heaped tablespoons of Aalgo to a lukewarm bath.
- Allow the seaweed to disperse through the water.
- Relax in the bath and allow the water to cover as much of the affected skin as comfortably possible.
- After bathing, gently pat the skin dry rather than rubbing.
- Follow with your usual moisturiser or emollient if required.
Avoid excessively hot water, as this can feel uncomfortable on very dry or sensitive skin.
For everyday body cleansing, our Atlantic Seaweed Soap Bar can also be incorporated into a simple skincare routine.
Using Aalgo on Smaller Areas of Dry or Irritated Skin
If a full bath is not practical, Aalgo can be mixed with water and applied to smaller areas.
How to Prepare It
- Mix a small amount of Aalgo with water until it forms a light cream-like consistency.
- Allow the mixture to cool to a comfortable temperature.
- Apply gently to the area.
- Leave for approximately 5–10 minutes.
- Rinse away carefully using lukewarm water.
- Pat the skin dry.
Do not apply hot seaweed mixture to the skin or use it on areas that are broken, bleeding or infected.
Facial Eczema & Dermatitis-Prone Skin
The skin on the face is particularly delicate, so applications should be kept short and gentle.
Aalgo Face Mask
- Mix 1 heaped teaspoon of Aalgo with hot water until a smooth cream forms.
- Allow it to cool fully.
- Apply a thin layer using clean fingers, a spatula or the back of a teaspoon.
- Leave on for approximately 2 minutes.
- Remove gently using tepid water and a soft reusable pad or cotton wool.
- Pat the skin dry.
- Follow with your usual moisturiser.
Avoid rubbing or exfoliating dry or flaky areas.
For daily facial cleansing, our Olive Oil Facial Cleansing Bar can be used as part of a simple routine for dry and sensitive skin.
Eczema-Prone Skin on the Hands & Feet
The hands and feet can be particularly difficult areas to keep comfortable because they are frequently exposed to water, footwear, soaps and other everyday irritants.
Aalgo can be mixed into a cream-like consistency and applied to intact areas of dry skin before being rinsed away gently with lukewarm water.
You can also use Aalgo in a small hand or foot soak.
Afterwards:
- Pat rather than rub the skin dry.
- Apply your normal moisturiser or prescribed emollient.
- Avoid very hot water.
- Use gentle cleansing products where possible.
If the skin is cracked, bleeding, infected or particularly painful, seek advice from a healthcare professional.
Scalp & Seborrhoeic Dermatitis-Prone Skin
Dermatitis can also affect the scalp, where it may cause dryness, sensitivity and visible flaking.
Aalgo can be mixed with water into a light cream and applied through wet hair and across the scalp before rinsing.
For regular hair washing, our Seaweed Shampoo Bar provides another simple seaweed-based option.
Using Aalgo on the Scalp
- Mix Aalgo with water into a light cream-like consistency.
- Apply gently through wet hair and across the scalp.
- Leave for approximately 15 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Wash the hair gently with the Seaweed Shampoo Bar if required.
Avoid scratching or aggressively rubbing flaky areas.
Persistent or severe seborrhoeic dermatitis should be assessed by a GP, pharmacist or dermatologist.
What About Eczema in Babies & Children?
Babies and young children need a different approach to skincare, including smaller quantities and age-appropriate bathing instructions.

Can Aalgo Be Used as a Seaweed Cream for Eczema-Prone Skin?
Some people find Aalgo while searching for a seaweed cream for eczema.
Aalgo itself is not a medicated eczema cream. It is an organic Atlantic seaweed powder that can be mixed with water until it develops a cream-like consistency for short-contact use on the skin.
It should be viewed as part of a gentle skincare routine rather than as a medicine or cure for eczema.
Keeping an Eczema-Prone Skincare Routine Simple
Sensitive skin often benefits from a straightforward routine.
- Bathe Gently: Use lukewarm rather than very hot water and avoid excessive scrubbing.
- Cleanse Carefully: Choose simple cleansing products and avoid introducing several new products at the same time.
- Moisturise: Continue using the moisturiser or emollient that works well for your skin, particularly after bathing.
- Avoid Scratching: Scratching can damage already sensitive skin. Keep nails short and seek medical advice if itching becomes difficult to manage.
- Follow Prescribed Treatment: If your doctor has prescribed topical steroids, emollients or other medication, continue to follow their instructions.
Eczema, Dermatitis & Different Skin Areas
Eczema and dermatitis can appear in different ways and on different areas of the body.
These can include:
- Face and neck
- Hands and feet
- Arms and legs
- Skin folds
- Scalp
- Chest and back
Because the underlying cause and appropriate treatment can vary, persistent or recurring symptoms should be assessed by a healthcare professional.
Aalgo can then be incorporated into your normal bathing and skincare routine where appropriate.

- To start with shower as little as possible to allow the invisible residue of Aalgo absorb fully into the skin.

Baby & Toddler Eczema
Aalgo is a safe and harmless treatment to use in a baby’s bath from the age of 4 weeks and up.
- In a baby bath add 1 heaped teaspoon of Aalgo to lukewarm water (do the elbow test to ensure not too hot).
- With cotton wool or an organic natural sponge gently cover the areas that aren’t in the water, the crease around the ankles, wrists, neck etc.
- After the bath gently pat your baby dry.
Once baby is in a big bath add 1 tablespoon to a lukewarm to tepid bath and repeat as a above.
When your toddler is strong enough to splash around in the bath on their own try and bathe them for approximately 20mins. Bathe daily until completely clear.
Once clear each child differs, but bathe 3 times a week for 3 weeks and then 1-2 a week thereafter to maintain.
