The Story Behind Aalgo: Born from the Sea, Built on Love
Some of the most extraordinary things in life begin with a very simple, human wish: the wish to feel comfortable in your own skin.
Thirty years ago, that wish set something in motion that would eventually become Aalgo. This is our story, and it begins with my father.
A Life Spent Searching for Relief
My father spent much of his life living with debilitating eczema.
He tried product after product and remedy after remedy, searching for something that could make his skin feel more comfortable.
Eczema is not just about how the skin looks. It can affect sleep, confidence and everyday life, and for decades it was simply part of his daily existence.
Then something shifted.
The Sea That Changed Everything
It was while on holiday, swimming regularly in the Atlantic, that my father noticed something remarkable.
After spending time in the sea each day, his skin began to feel different. The dryness and irritation appeared calmer and, for perhaps the first time in years, his skin felt more comfortable.
He didn’t dismiss it as coincidence. He paid attention.
In his forties, armed with that simple observation, he decided to find a way to bring part of that sea-bathing experience home.
A Family Mission
This was never a solo endeavour.
My mother and father began exploring why sea bathing seemed to suit his skin so well. Their journey led them to seaweed — pure Atlantic seaweed growing in abundance along the west coast of Ireland.
Seaweed naturally contains minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, amino acids and other compounds that have made it part of traditional bathing and body-care routines for generations.
From that discovery, Aalgo was born.

Nothing Added. Nothing Taken Away.
From the beginning, the philosophy was clear: keep Aalgo simple.
The seaweed would be used with nothing added and nothing taken away, allowing people to introduce Atlantic seaweed into their skincare and bathing routines without a long list of additional ingredients.
For my father, regular seaweed bathing became part of the routine that helped him care for his eczema-prone skin.
That experience became the foundation of everything Aalgo would later become.
Thirty Years of Aalgo Seaweed Skincare
What began as my parents’ search for a gentler way to care for difficult skin has, over the years, become a story shared by customers around the world.
People have incorporated Aalgo into routines for:

By working carefully with the seaweed and the environment it grows in, the aim is to protect the natural resource at the heart of Aalgo for generations to come.
