The Story Behind Aalgo: Born from the Sea, Built on Love
Some of the most extraordinary things in life begin with a very simple, human wish. The wish to feel comfortable in your own skin.
Thirty years ago, that wish set something in motion that would go on to heal the skin of thousands of people around the world. This is the story of Aalgo. And it begins with my father.
A Life Spent Searching for Relief
My father spent his entire life battling debilitating eczema. He tried everything, product after product, remedy after remedy, and nothing came close to offering lasting relief. Eczema is not just a skin condition. It is exhausting, relentless, and deeply personal. It affects how you sleep, how you feel, and how you move through the world. For decades, it was simply a part of his daily existence.
Then, something shifted.
The Sea That Changed Everything
It was on holiday, standing at the edge of the ocean and letting the Atlantic wash over him, that my father noticed something remarkable. After swimming in the sea each day, his skin began to clear. The inflammation settled. The itch quietened. His skin, for perhaps the first time in his adult life, felt at peace.
He didn't dismiss it as coincidence. He paid attention.
In his forties, armed with that simple but profound observation, he made a decision. He was going to find a way to bring the ocean home.
A Family Mission
This was never a solo endeavour. My mother and father set about together understanding why the sea had done what decades of conventional treatments could not. They explored the science and the tradition, and they found their answer in seaweed. Pure, wild-harvested, organic Atlantic seaweed, growing in abundance in the pristine waters off the west coast of Ireland.
The minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, and amino acids within it were extraordinary. Deeply hydrating, anti-inflammatory, skin-rebuilding. Seaweed was nature doing what it has always done: sustaining life, quietly and completely.
From that discovery, Aalgo was born.
Nothing Added. Nothing Taken Away.
From the beginning, the philosophy was clear and unwavering. Aalgo would contain only what the ocean provides, nothing more, nothing less. 100% pure, wild seaweed, sustainably hand-picked from the Atlantic, with every nutrient intact. The product activates with water, just as it did when it first healed my father's skin.
And it worked. His eczema, with continuous bathing, never returned.
Thirty Years of Healing
What began as my parents' search for an answer has, over thirty years, become a story shared by people all over the world. Babies with nappy rash and cradle cap. Children and adults living with eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. People managing acne, rosacea, severely dry skin, and aching joints. All of them, at some point, finding their way to Aalgo.
The ocean, it turns out, has no age limit. Aalgo is safe and gentle enough for a six-week-old baby, and powerful enough to transform the most troubled skin in adults. That universality, that deep and uncomplicated effectiveness, is at the heart of everything we do.
Rooted in the Sea, Minded for the Future
Our connection to the ocean is not just the origin of our story. It shapes how we work every single day. We hand-pick only a small portion of each seaweed plant from its growing site, allowing it to regenerate naturally and continuously. This careful, considered practice protects the marine ecosystem and ensures that the Atlantic can keep giving, for generations to come.
We believe that truly good skincare does not come at the planet's expense. It works with nature, not against it.
An Ongoing Story
Aalgo began with a father who refused to accept that suffering was simply his lot, and a mother who stood beside him in searching for something better. It was built on their curiosity, their determination, and their deep respect for the natural world. And now, thirty years on, it continues through every person who opens a packet of Aalgo for the first time, curious and perhaps a little hopeful, and discovers what the Atlantic has always known.
The ocean heals. It always has. We are just here to help you bring it home.
