What Causes Cellulite to Form?

And why your skin is doing nothing wrong.

Cellulite affects around 90% of women at some point in their lives. It shows up on thighs, hips, and upper arms, and it has absolutely nothing to do with how much you weigh or how hard you exercise. It is simply how skin behaves — and once you understand the biology behind it, it becomes a lot easier to stop fighting your body and start supporting it instead.

The Biology Behind It

Beneath the surface of the skin sits a layer of fat cells held in place by vertical fibrous bands. Over time these bands can weaken and pull downward while the fat cells push upward, creating the dimpled texture we call cellulite. It is not a sign that anything is broken. It is simply the structure of female skin doing what it is designed to do.

Men rarely develop cellulite because their connective tissue runs diagonally, holding fat more evenly in place. Hormones, genetics, age, and circulation all influence how visible cellulite is and where it appears, but none of these things make it your fault or your failure.

Poor circulation is one of the most significant contributing factors. When blood flow slows, the tissue becomes less nourished and the skin can look puffy and uneven. Dehydration and a natural decline in collagen with age both make the appearance more pronounced too.

Where Seaweed Comes In

Seaweed wraps have been the centrepiece of professional spa cellulite treatments for decades, and for good reason. Seaweed works at a deeper level than surface creams, engaging the body's own circulation and detoxification systems.

Aalgo is 100% pure wild harvested organic Atlantic seaweed, and it brings that same treatment home simply and affordably. Used as a warm wrap, the heat and minerals encourage blood flow to the area, helping the tissue receive nutrients and flush out waste products. Seaweed draws impurities through the skin, supporting natural detoxification, while its rich blend of vitamins A, B, E, K, and C nourishes the skin, supports collagen production, and visibly improves tone and elasticity. The body also absorbs seaweed through the pores, rehydrating the skin from within for a smoother, plumper appearance.

How to Use Aalgo

As a wrap: Mix half a cup of Aalgo with hot water into a thick cream. Apply to the areas you want to treat, cover with cling film and a towel to hold in the heat, and leave for up to 20 minutes. Shower off with lukewarm water followed by a cold rinse. Repeat twice a week for four to five weeks, and drink eight glasses of still water daily to help flush out released toxins.

As a maintenance bath: Add two tablespoons of Aalgo to a warm bath, soak for 20 minutes with neck and shoulders submerged, and follow with a short cold shower. Repeat every week or ten days to keep skin smooth and hydrated.

Cellulite is biology, not failure. What you can do is support your skin and body to look and feel their best, and the ocean has been offering the tools to do exactly that for a very long time.
